SUSE Peer Support for Work Facebook Group launch today

international-day

Scottish Union of Supported Employment (SUSE) is delighted to announce that our local MP Tommy Sheppard is helping us launch our brand new ‘Peer Support for Work’ Facebook Group to coincide with the ‘United Nations International Day of People with Disabilities’.

Celebrated every year, the United Nations International Day of People with Disabilities’ attracts an international audience.  A wide range of events are held across the world to mark the occasion. Each year has a different theme and the focus in 2016 is Achieving Goals for the Future We Want’.

“A peer support network for those with a disability seeking work would be a welcome addition to the current supports available.  By being able to access this online as well as face to face will enable those with a range of needs to benefit in a way that most suits them. Being able to share concerns and positive experiences about their journey into employment could prove invaluable.” Tommy Sheppard MP

Our ‘Peer for Work’ Facebook group will provide a safe, virtual space for disabled people or anyone with a long-term health condition in Scotland to discuss employment related issues, hear from disabled employees/employers and have Q&A sessions with disabled entrepreneurs.

The Scottish Union of Supported Employment is an umbrella organisation for public, private and voluntary bodies interested in supported employment and social inclusion. We believe everyone has the right to work, and to the support they need to get there.

The ‘More than the Sum of the Parts’ is a lottery-funded project currently run by SUSE. It has three main objectives:
  1. To support Scottish businesses to employ more disabled people and support disabled employees.
  2. To raise business awareness of Supported Employment across Scotland.
  3. To encourage disabled people to use peer support during their journey into work and in their career development.

Our Peer Support for Work Network is a network of high-quality and reliable peer support, all of which has an employment theme. It is for any disabled person or anyone with a long-term health condition who is interested in employment.

Through the network, we provide:

  • Access to a virtual peer support group. A closed and secure Facebook group, for people to share their views and experiences about work.
  • Access to face-to-face peer support through our network of Peer Support for Work Hubs.
  • A ‘Peer Support for Work’ directory of work-themed peer support around Scotland.
  • Roadshows and Taster Events around the country
