We would like to invite you to play your part in ‘Question Time’, an event designed to give members of the public the opportunity to quiz our panel of senior councillors on changes to council services.

The proceedings will be chaired by Euan McGrory, Deputy Editor of the Evening News, Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday, and broadcast live via the Council website.

If you would like to put a question to the panel, or just come along and be part of the audience, please complete this short online questionnaire by 7 November. Please note that places are limited. If you are not able to attend please pass the invitation on to a friend, family member or colleague.

This is a great opportunity to play your part in our public engagement to help us reshape council services. You can also get involved before 18 November 2016 by:

·         going online to fill in our survey

·         submitting your ideas to the dialogue page 

Your feedback will help the Council to make its final budget decisions early next year.

Chinese Autumn Lights event

Dear friends,

Edinburgh Chinese Arts Association (ECAA) invites you to – Celebrating Chinese Autumn Lights event on 05 November 2016, Saturday 7.30pm – 10pm, Venue: Central hall, 2 West Tollcross, Edinburgh (next to fire station).

The event will be hosted in collaboration with Edinburgh & Lothians Regional Equality Council (ELREC) and Breast Cancer Care Scotland (BCCS), aims to promote Chinese culture and heritage to the mainstream society and to increase community cohesion.

Live fantabulous performance includes traditional Chinese dance and music, kung fu and other multicultural perform will be featured at the event. Finger food and beverage will also be available!

All proceeds from the event will go to BCCS for the united goal of a better and pain-free tomorrow.

Social security event at Royston Wardieburn tomorrow

Hi everyone

Just a wee reminder about the community event we are having in the centre on Wednesday.  The aim of the event is to give people from North Edinburgh an opportunity to take part in the Scottish Government’s consultation process on a new Social Security System for Scotland.

We will be kicking off at 10.00 and finishing at 12.30.   A community lunch will be provided afterwards in the cafe.  To help us with the arrangements for the day, we would appreciate if you could let us know if you are coming and if you require childcare or have any other needs we should be aware of.

Cllr Andrew Burns and Cllr Frank Ross invite you to this chance to hear about the big success story involving cooperatives and cooperative working in Edinburgh. The conference will provide an opportunity to learn and reflect on the growth in cooperatives and social enterprises, cooperative working in schools, cooperative procurement, cooperative service re design, cooperative social responsibility and cooperative community engagement. The conference will also look at what are the next steps for this work, linking cooperative working to the City Vision 2050 and community planning. 

This conference is open to anybody or organisation who has been involved in this work over the last four years.

Latest news from Friends of Walled Garden

September and October have been busy with the Friends Group representing almost 700 petitioners at the City Chambers. The result:- the committee referred us to the Economy Committee with a recommendation that they help with the aims of re-opening and safeguarding the walled garden.
September was also the time we met regularly to pull together our ideas for a presentation to the developers on the 5th October. A thank you to those that attended our mini press-release. We tried to show the progress the group has made over the last two years, network of individuals and organisations involved, and a graphic plan of how the garden could be used for community benefit.
Designs and plan for the garden will be on display for comment from the start of November at the Muirhouse Community Shop on Pennywell Road.

A large scale version of the friends Group plan above will be displayed throughout November in the community shop for comment. We hope that the historic garden will be kept as Openspace in the ‘Masterplan’ being produced right now by the developers, and that an agreement can be reached this winter to allow the garden to be made accessible. We wait eagerly to hear from the developers following our presentation of community plans on the 5th October.
