Local theatre company Edinburgh Music Theatre is looking for talented singers, actors and dancers to become the residents of Anatevka, the small Russian village at the heart of the much loved musical Fiddler on the Roof.
EMT will be bringing the musical Fiddler on the Roof to the King’s Theatre in April 2017, and have announced details of an Open Evening and auditions for those interested in joining the cast.
An informal Open Evening will take place on 14 September, to allow interested people to meet the production team and hear more about what being part of EMT is all about. This will be followed by Company Auditions on 17 September, and principal auditions on 21 September.

Fiddler on the Roof follows the story of Tevye, a poor milkman, and his family as they try to stick to traditions as they navigate the stormy waters of living in a Jewish community in Russia during the early years of the 20th Century. The musical features music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and a book by Joseph Stein, and is based on Tevye and His Daughters, a series of stories by Sholem Aleichem. The musical features much loved songs, including: If I Were a Rich Man; Matchmaker, Matchmaker; Sunrise, Sunset; and Tradition.
The original production bagged nine Tony awards, including Best Musical, and the 1971 film adaptation was the highest grossing film of that year.
EMT’s production will be directed by Ian Hammond Brown, with musical direction by Paul Gudgin.
Hazel Beattie, chair of the EMT board, said: “We can’t wait to bring Fiddler on the Roof to the King’s Theatre next year. We’re looking for talented people to join our cast, no matter how much previous experience they have. EMT is a warm, welcoming group and we love to get to know new people and foster new talent. This is a fantastic opportunity to perform this beautiful musical on a major stage.”
Performances of Fiddler on the Roof will take place in the King’s Theatre Edinburgh on 5-8 April at 7:30pm, with a matinee performance on Saturday 8 April at 2:30pm. Tickets are already available through the King’s Theatre website.
EMT was formed in 1982 to perform large-scale musicals in major theatres. The company perform a yearly musical and also present two cabaret shows at the Fringe. Past shows include The Producers, Chess: The Musical, Boogie Nights, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleetstreet.
