The showgirls are fluffing their feathers, the accounts are counting their cash; Edinburgh Music Theatre (EMT) is getting ready to perform Mel Brooks’ The Producers at the Church Hill Theatre next month.

The Producers, with music, lyrics and script by Mel Brooks, is one of the most celebrated musicals of all time. The show picked up the most Tony Awards ever given to a musical when it was awarded twelve at the 2002 ceremony, including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical.
The musical was based on Mel Brook’s popular 1968 film of the same name, about a down on his luck theatre producer and a mild mannered account who scheme together to put together the worst show on Broadway and pocket two million dollars for themselves in the process.
The cast of amateur performers have been in rehearsals for The Producers since October last year, working in their spare time to pull together all singing all dancing spectacular.
Joel Mason, the director, said: “In 40 years of theatre I have seldom worked with a group, professional or otherwise, that has as much heart as this company. Is it any wonder that the Edinburgh Music Theatre Company has a reputation as one of the finest musical theatre groups in Scotland? I am privileged to be among them.”
Hazel Beattie, EMT Chairperson, said: “I am extremely delighted that EMT is bringing this hilarious production to the Edinburgh stage for 2016. All the cast and production team have been working hard (and laughing hard!) each week at rehearsals. We have such a talented and dedicated group of performers that this is sure to be another huge success and not to be missed.”
Edinburgh Music Theatre Company, or EMT, was formed in 1982, to perform large-scale musicals in major theatres. They perform a yearly musical and also present two cabaret shows at the Fringe. Past shows include Chess: the Musical, Boogie Nights, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and a run of Sweeney Todd that incorporated British Sign Language into every aspect of the performance, including choreography.
Performances of The Producers will take place in the Church Hill Theatre on 22-26 March at 7:30pm, with a matinee performance on Saturday 26  March at 2:30pm. Tickets are available now through the Usher Hall website and booking line 0131 228 1155, also available through
