Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery that took place in Wardieburn at around 00.30am on Saturday.

A 43-year-old man was delivering a takeaway to a flat on Wardieburn Street West, when he was approached within the common stairwell and threatened by a man who demanded cash. A struggle ensued, during which the two men left the property to the rear, and the suspect made off empty handed.

The 43-year-old sustained injuries to his head and face, but did not receive medical attention.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged mid-late 20s, 5ft 6inches tall, with a stocky build. He was wearing a black balaclava and a plain blue knitted jumper. He had dark eyebrows and a local accent.

Detective Sergeant Lynsey Thomson said: “This was a shocking and distressing incident for the victim, who was just trying to do his job. We’re urging anyone who may have seen the suspect, or has any further information which can assist with our investigation, to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
