Trinity Academy to become a community school: Information Event

The rebuilding of Trinity Academy is the biggest single investment in Trinity for very many years.  It will probably hold that record for many more to come.  Importantly, the plan is to redevelop the Academy as a “community school” – an asset for the whole of the community.

So what does a “community school” do?  What ought it do?  How can the project team determine the needs of the wider community?  And how can you play a part in doing that?

On 13th June, Trinity Community Council will host Amanda Hatton, CEC Executive Director of Education and Children’s Services, who will answer these questions and more.  Most especially yours.

Amanda’s portfolio includes education, schools, early years, lifelong learning, libraries and community centres as well as social services for adults and children so she is uniquely well placed to discuss the potentials and the needs.

We would love to have your input.  Join us on Monday 13th June at 7pm in the Church Hall at Inverleith St Serf’s or from the comfort of your sofa via Zoom using this link:

Update from Trinity Community Council

I hope you had a great summer.  Autumn is here and with it comes
weeding, tree pruning and, of course, Community Council sessions!

Monday’s meeting will be particularly significant as we say goodbye to
several faces who have done sterling service for the community of
Trinity over many years.  We will miss your selfless efforts on all our
behalfs but hope that you will never be far away and will keep popping
in to keep us right.

However, like the passing of the seasons, this also presents
opportunities.  TCC now has no fewer than 6 vacancies.  We have loads of
great ideas and some huge projects inside and nearby our area but need
help to carry them out and to engage.  Without that, they will never
move from ideas to real improvements in all our lives.  So why not come
along on Monday and get involved?  Agenda attached (below).

And as a bonus, Monday’s meeting will hear directly from Edinburgh
Council’s Head of Finance about how Edinburgh gets that £1bn every year
and the challenges that brings. Don’t start pruning that magic money
tree just yet!

I hope to see you on Monday.

Here’s your first update of 2019 from Trinity Community Council following an excellent session in January with the Convener of Transport & Environment.

National Collections Facility which is already housed there. Continue reading Latest news from Trinity Community Council

Restoring the Monarchy! Trinity CC December update

I hope you had a great Christmas.  Here’s your December update from Trinity Community Council:

Our first meeting of 2019, on January 14th will address the tricky
subject of traffic volumes in/around and through Trinity and beyond.

Please do come along to listen to Cllr McInnes and bring your
questions.  We always do our best to represent the community’s opinions
but it is always better to have them expressed at first hand.

All feedback on any of this is, as ever, welcome.

Meantime, have a Happy Hogmanay!

Best wishes,

Bill Rodger

Do you care about Trinity’s heritage?

Victoria Primary School is to be replaced by a new school on Western
Harbour in 2020. The existing building will then be for sale. This means
there is an exciting opportunity for the community to acquire the
building, but this can ONLY happen IF we can show that there is:

(i) strong support from the community
(ii) a robust plan to meet the criteria for community asset transfer and
that of the potential funders (e.g.Community Land Fund)

So come along and tell us:

  • what you think about the idea of community ownership.
  • what the area needs, that the building could provide.
  • how you might be able to help.

If you believe it can usefully serve the community then here’s the
chance to help make that happen. Because, quite simply, it will not
happen UNLESS there is demonstrable community support.

So please come along to Victoria Primary School at 7pm on Thursday 4th October to discuss:

‘SHOULD a NEW COMMUNITY GROUP BE SET UP to ACQUIRE and DEVELOP VICTORIA  PRIMARY SCHOOL for the COMMUNITY?’
