Stirling Castle crypto event raises £13,500 for Maggie’s

A ground-breaking gathering of crypto enthusiasts and Bitcoin Angels at Stirling Castle has raised £13,500 – and counting – for cancer charity Maggie’s. 

In addition to the £5000 donated directly from artist and organiser Trevor Jones he is also willing to match contributions up to 5 Ethereum, as more continues to come through in donations of the crypto currency. 

A fine art graduate and traditional painter, Trevor has worked at the intersection of art and technology for more than a decade, experimenting with QR code paintings and augmented reality (AR). When he invested in Bitcoin in 2017 it inspired a new creative direction, leading to his crypto-themed AR paintings and his emergence as a pioneer of non-fungible tokens (NFT) in art. 

He staged the Grand Party at the historic castle last month (July) as a celebration of art, tech innovation and community, bringing together hundreds of NFT art enthusiasts from across five continents. 

Billed as the year’s most exclusive crypto event, with an exclusive Special Edition Castle Party 2022 NFT available only at the gathering, it featured acts including magicians, drum and pipe bands, Highland warriors from Combat International, a caricaturist and musicians. 

Trevor said: “We’re over the moon that the event already raised £13,500 for Maggie’s cancer charity, a cause close to the heart of the NFT community since the passing earlier this year of the well-loved crypto artist Phillipe Fatoux aka Alotta Money. 

“The Castle Party was an unforgettable experience – even the temperamental Scottish weather was on our side with blue skies followed by a beautiful sunset.  And we’ve already begun organising Castle Party 2023!” 

Anyone who wishes to support the 2022 initiative can donate to Maggie’s  or donate through this ETH address until the end of the year.

 Edinburgh-based tech artist Trevor Jones stages exclusive crypto event at Stirling Castle

Stirling’s majestic 12th-century castle is set to make history when it stages its first gathering of crypto enthusiasts and Bitcoin Angels this month. 

The ancient seat, where the infant Mary Queen of Scots was crowned, will embrace 21st-century technology at a Grand Party later this month (July 30) hosted by innovative artist Trevor Jones.

The open-edition NFT derived from his painting The Bitcoin Angel broke sales records on its release last year generating $3.2M in 7 minutes and has become iconic in the NFT world. And now he’s hosting the Castle Party extravaganza to celebrate this exciting digital art movement and the unique worldwide community that has grown up around The Bitcoin Angel. 

Billed as the year’s most exclusive crypto event, with an exclusive Special Edition Castle Party 2022 NFT available only at the gathering, it will bring more than 300 guests to Scotland from 20 countries across North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

The party, in partnership with 21CC Group and the Stirling Highland Hotel, will feature a range of entertainment including DJ RT, tribal drums and pipe band Clanadonia; sword-wielding warrior actors and performers from Combat International; sleight of hand from Jody Greig and Dusty the Magician; caricaturist Neil Kempsell; harpist Mary Macmaster; Pipe Major Kevin McLean, historical re-enactment group Living History Scotland and Royal Burgh of Renfrew Pipe Band.

The National Lottery ‘Days Out’ offers up to £25 off top attractions and experiences

  • £8 million worth of ‘Days Out’ vouchers will be available from 8th October granting National Lottery players up to £25 off tickets to participating venues on the VisitBritain Shop  

To inspire the nation to have more fun this autumn, The National Lottery is helping to fund great days out at hundreds of attractions and experiences across the UK by offering vouchers that can be used to claim up to £25 off entry.  

From 8th October, anyone with a valid Lotto ticket can claim a £25 voucher* for use at participating venues. Whether it’s an adrenaline-filled day or one full of mindful moments, there’s something for everyone, including country parks, medieval castles, aquariums, walking tours and much more. 

Venues and attractions from all corners of the UK are participating in The National Lottery Days Out promotion, acollaboration with VisitBritain to help support domestic tourism this autumn, including highlights in Scotland:  

  • Animal lovers can visit the Highland Wildlife Park located in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, learn about the 1,000 endangered and threatened species that live at Edinburgh Zoo or catch a glimpse of the only Cow Nose Rays in Scotland at SEA LIFE Loch Lomond.
