Green fingered pupils transform school garden

Pupils at East Linton Primary School are working to revamp their school garden with support from Stewart Milne Homes.

The leading housebuilder recently awarded £1,000 of funding to the school as part of its Eco-Gardens initiative.

Overseen by Gill Gardner, Head Teacher at East Linton Primary School, children from the school’s P3 and P4 class have started to get underway with the ambitious project and are learning positive skills that promote health and wellbeing, with their efforts providing a vibrant space for pupils to learn and play.

Funding from five-star developer Stewart Milne Homes has been used to purchase a planter for each class in the school, with parent volunteers helping to clear spaces of weeds, ready for planting.

Gill Gardner, Head Teacher at East Linton Primary School, said: “Pupils have had a brilliant time working together to bring the school’s garden to life over the last few weeks.

“It has been amazing to be involved with Stewart Milne Homes’ Eco-Gardens initiative, and we’re looking forward to unveiling the final garden design to the rest of the school to enjoy now we are into the new school year. A huge thanks to our parent council who have played such an important role in this exciting project.”

Launched in 2022, Stewart Milne Homes’ Eco-Gardens Initiative provides funding for primary schools near some of its developments throughout Scotland and north-west England and forms part of the housebuilder’s sustainability strategy. The programme supports schools to purchase outdoor gardening equipment, materials and plants, which are used by pupils to renovate outdoor areas in their school grounds and importantly enhances the opportunity for children to learn outdoors. Stewart Milne Homes has also donated 30 high-vis jackets for the pupils to use when playing and gardening outdoors, which will be used year-round.

Leading housebuilder continues to build on support for Midlothian community

More than 40 budding rugby players turned out in force for Dalkeith Rugby Club’s Little Ruggers training session this month as the 2022/23 season got underway.

The popular sports club for two-to-five-year-olds holds two classes every Sunday morning at King’s Park in Dalkeith, inspiring youngsters to get into the sport early on by encouraging them to build their confidence, agility and basic rugby ability in a fun and energetic environment. 

After being the main sponsor of the Dalkeith Minis Rugby Festival earlier this year, Stewart Milne Homes has further underlined its commitment to the community and is now the proud sponsor of the Dalkeith Little Ruggers group for the 2022/23 season.

The leading housebuilder has provided the aspiring players with Little Ruggers t-shirts to wear for their class each week and mini rugby balls to play with at home.

Dalkeith Rugby Club welcomes more than 400 families to Minis Festival

Families from across Edinburgh and the Lothians turned out in force at the Dalkeith Minis Rugby Festival 2022 on Sunday (15 May), which was supported by leading housebuilder Stewart Milne Homes.

Hosted at King’s Park by Dalkeith Rugby Club, more than 400 primary school children across six teams including Dalkeith, Falkirk, Lasswade, Leith, Penicuik, and Preston Lodge competed in the round robin festival of 12-minute matches throughout the day.

With a people-first ethos, Stewart Milne Homes was the main sponsor of the event and provided funding to support the organisation of the minis rugby festival which has been encouraging friendly community sport for over 15 years.

The award-winning housebuilder also provided a gazebo for the event which was the main hub for all attendees on the day and supplied re-usable water bottles for all the children to keep them hydrated throughout the event and take home for future use.

Rugby balls were also donated to the club for the kids to use when on the pitch and all participants proudly took home a competition medal as a keepsake of the action-packed day.
