Miller Homes Scotland East launches new national charity partnership with Groundwork

Volunteers from Miller Homes’ Scotland East team have kicked off a new national charity partnership with Groundwork, getting straight into action and reinforcing the housebuilder’s long-term commitment to supporting communities, nature and outdoor learning.

The partnership was launched in the region with a volunteering day on Thursday 15 January, where a team of Miller Homes Scotland East employees worked alongside Groundwork to help create a new outdoor classroom at Craigmillar Castle Park in Edinburgh.

The outdoor classroom will enable more children and families to benefit from Groundwork’s Wellies in the Woodsprogramme; a national initiative that helps under-fives build confidence, language and literacy skills through outdoor play.

Designed to reconnect families with nature on their doorsteps, the programme brings stories and books to life through low to no-cost outdoor activities in local green spaces, working closely with early years settings while supporting health and wellbeing.

As part of the volunteering activity, the Miller Homes Scotland East team supported the creation of the outdoor learning space through practical works including path edging, woodchip laying, crown lifting and stump installation.

The volunteering day marks the first activity of Miller Homes’ regional charity partnership with Groundwork for 2026. Throughout the year, the partnership will include a financial contribution, volunteering support from regional teams across the UK, and fundraising activities to help Groundwork expand the Wellies in the Woods programme.

Miller Homes supports Lothian Children’s Deaf Club and helps light up Whitecraig with funding boost

Festive funding boost for Midlothian community groups

Miller Homes Scotland East is supporting two Midlothian community groups through its Community Fund initiative, donating £1,000 each to Lothian Children’s Deaf Club in Bonnyrigg and Whitecraig Christmas Lights in Dalkeith.

Since launching in 2022, the Community Fund has made a meaningful difference to local communities across Scotland, awarding £344,000 in grants to 538 organisations.

The initiative has helped a wide range of projects, from supporting foodbanks, sports teams, music groups and creative spaces. So far in 2025 Community Fund has supported seventeen groups across Scotland with a share of £20,000, including Lothian Children’s Deaf Club and Whitecraig Christmas Lights. 

Miller Homes’ donation to Lothian Children’s Deaf Club will go towards purchasing BSL resources for schools. This includes posters for open parts of the school with BSL greetings, useful words/phrases and grammar, as well as flashcards for further learning. 

Kirsten Abioye, co-founder at Lothian Children’s Deaf Club said: “Thanks to a generous £1,000 donation from Miller Homes, we can continue our mission at LCDC to support deaf children and their families. 

A big part of that is providing opportunities to learn BSL so we hope these resources will encourage and support BSL learning in schools.

“This also fosters community learning, where hearing children have the opportunity to learn alongside deaf children and helping to create an inclusive school environment where everyone feels they belong.” 

Funding awarded to Whitecraig Christmas Lights will support ongoing fundraising efforts to help light up the village during the festive season, bringing residents together and creating a strong sense of local pride.

Rebecka Melrose, representative of Whitecraig Christmas Lights, said: “Thanks to a generous £1,000 donation from Miller Homes, we can continue to light up the village and spread festive cheer for everyone to enjoy.

“A huge thank you to Miller Homes for supporting our community.”

Miller Homes launches Edgelaw View housing development

Leading UK homebuilder, Miller Homes is launching a brand-new development in Edinburgh this Saturday (22 June), bringing 152 homes, including 39 affordable, to a popular residential area just south of the bustling capital.

Edgelaw View will comprise a mix of two-bedroom apartments, three-bedroom townhouses and three and four-bedroom family homes, providing buyers of all ages and stages in Edinburgh with plenty of choice when it comes to new build homes. The development follows the success of Edgelaw, Miller Homes’ 2019 development in the area, and aims to meet the demand for energy efficient homes within easy reach of Edinburgh.

In a move towards helping buyers live sustainably and reduce energy costs, each Miller home at the new Edgelaw View development will come with solar panels and the development will feature electric vehicle charging points.

Homebuilder’s team in Edinburgh supports Alzheimer Scotland with fitness challenge

Miller Homes Scotland East is supporting Alzheimer Scotland with a donation of £10,595 following recent fundraising efforts that saw the homebuilder’s Edinburgh team complete a month-long step count challenge, alongside other colleagues in the East of Scotland.

For each mile a Scotland East employee stepped during the challenge, Miller Homes pledged to donate £1 to Alzheimer Scotland, resulting in thousands raised for Scotland’s dementia charity.

Making a real difference to the lives of people living in and around the communities Miller Homes is building in, this challenge allowed employees in Edinburgh to stay fit through a variety of exercise methods, from hill walking and running, to taking part in basketball, netball and football games.

Neil Gaffney, Sales Director for Miller Homes Scotland East, is exceptionally proud of the fundraising efforts from the Edinburgh team. He said: “The team members from our head office and West Craigs Manor development in Edinburgh certainly know how to accept a challenge and this charity fundraiser was no different.

“Each employee took this incentive in their stride, quite literally, raising a staggering total for Alzheimer Scotland, a charity we know is close to so many of our employees’ hearts.

“Not only have we been able to provide a cash boost for a great cause, we’ve also been able to encourage our employees in Edinburgh to come together through exercise and improve their overall health and wellbeing.”
