Commenting on his appointment, Micky Gavin, said: “I’m really thrilled to be launching a brand-new breakfast show, live from Edinburgh for Edinburgh! I have dusted off the alarm clock and can’t wait to get started!

“I’m also looking forward to working with the on air team and will be looking to further strengthen the sound of Edge 1 and the line up in the near future.

“Finally, I get to work with my old pal and boss, Jay Crawford again! It’s an exciting time for both Edge Media Group and MB Media and I’m excited to be part of this new chapter.”

Barrie Wilkins, MD, MB Media, said: “Micky and I worked together in radio before he came to join the team at MB Media. When the opportunity came to acquire a stake in Edge Media Group, we talked about the possibilities and the benefits it could potentially have for our clients.

“I was introduced to Edge’s owner, Jay Crawford and was completely inspired by him and his vision for the radio station.

“MB Media has almost 100 marketing clients, from restaurants to large hotel chains. We’re always looking at ways to increase brand awareness for them and having radio as an option makes perfect sense.”

Jay Crawford, Owner, Edge Media Group, said: “This is an exciting time as we take our stations to the next level. Having MB Media on board for support and to help expand our brands with their expertise is fantastic.

“I’m looking forward to working with Barrie and his team, but getting Micky on board for Edge 1’s Breakfast Show and to help steer our programming is amazing”

Current breakfast show presenter, Mark Martin joins Edge 2 and will present the weekday afternoon drive time show from 2-6pm.

Radio legend launches new station in Edinburgh

Edge Radio aims to be the sound of summer in the Capital

A new radio station is set to hit the airwaves on DAB in Edinburgh this summer. Edge Radio, backed by veteran DJ Jay Crawford, is launching this month with current and upbeat tunes perfect for summertime listening.

The Station has been operating online for over a year but has seen a huge increase in listeners since Jay purchased the station in October last year. Jay has used all his experience as the former programme director at Real, Smooth and Rock Radio to bring in a team of presenters together including radio pros such as Mark Martin who worked at Real Radio and Forth One, Jill McLaren who used to co-present the Breakfast Show on Forth One and Brad Yule who worked on Capital Radio.

The team also includes exciting young talent including Matthew Paige, Johnny Togneri, Meghan McKee and Chrissy Meechan. Edge Radio is committed to spending a lot of time on training and development.

Jay Crawford, who was one of the original DJs on Radio Forth when it first launched in 1975, has used all his 47 years’ experience from Radio Forth / Radio Clyde and as an award-winning Programme Controller at Real Radio to get Edge Radio to the point of launching on DAB digital radio.

Edge Radio will host three main daytime shows, all sponsored by Scottish businesses. Breakfast will be hosted by Edinburgh radio star Mark Martin and will be sponsored by Belmont Suzuki, mid-day will run from 10-2pm hosted by Brad Yule and sponsored by Kingsgate Shopping Centre and the afternoon drive show 3-7pm will be sponsored by Cartmore Building Supply Company and hosted by Matt Shields.

Mark Martin, presenter of the Breakfast Show on Edge praised Jay’s contribution to the up-and-coming station: “Jays experience has proved invaluable in getting Edge to this point.

“We’ve got off to a flying start and hope everyone sees the huge potential in the station. We can’t wait to keep building on what we have created.”

While Jay’s experience has been key in Edge Radio’s success, he is keen to help others succeed in the industry: “I’ve been very lucky to have had a long and successful career and I’m just delighted to be able to share my experience and knowledge with our young up and coming presenters and producers.

“When I was presented with a Fellowship of the Radio Academy in 2008, I said at the time it was the highlight of my career but launching Edge Radio may just eclipse that in 2022. Launching in June will really suit Edge Radios music format, our music is current, upbeat and aimed a far younger audience than me!”
