The Royal Highland Show Illuminated is celebrating success after making a month-long tour across Scotland.
The immersive installations, which saw the Royal Highland Show’s rich history projected onto buildings and historical landmarks, attracted 1,780 visitors across the eight dates.
The events, which were free to attend and produced in association with Turcan Connell, projected expressive imagery, woven together with never-before-seen treasures and untold stories from the Show archives, creating a magical experience which truly brought the Show’s illustrious history to life.
Overall, there were 170 pieces of archive footage and images, put together by Edinburgh-based digital artists Bright Side Studios, that formed the 5-minute-long visual history of the Royal Highland Show.
Royal Highland Show organisers, the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS), created the event to raise awareness of the Show and highlight its positive impact on Scotland throughout the years.

RHASS Chairman Bill Gray commented: ““The Royal Highland Show is a key moment in both Scotland’s events and agricultural calendar – these installations were the perfect showcase of its wide-ranging impact and influence over the last two centuries.
They took place in eight locations around Scotland, referencing how the Show would tour each of the RHASS regions annually before it settled permanently at Ingliston in 1960. These were Edinburgh City Chambers, Jedburgh Town Hall, Drumlanrig Castle, Dumfries House, Alloa Tower, Glamis Castle, Haddo House and Eastgate Shopping Centre.
“However, the Royal Highland Show Illuminated also looked to the exciting future of both the Show and the Society. We hope that you’ll join us this June as we mark 200 years since that very first Show and celebrate the full return of Scotland’s biggest outdoor event.”
Supported by Royal Bank of Scotland, the Royal Highland Show will take place at the Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, Edinburgh, on 23-26 June 2022.
Tickets, including for car parking, must be pre-purchased online this year and no tickets will be available to buy on the gate. Tickets are limited in number this year with sell out days anticipated, so it is advised to purchase early.

Environmental charity, Keep Scotland Beautiful has announced two new inspiring national events for January as part of Scotland’s Climate Festival.
Free and open to all, these events create space for conversations around climate change and positive actions we can take to tackle it. The popular inaugural event in December kicked off discussions with a crucial conversation on the outcomes and opportunities following COP26 and what is next for Scotland.
Highlights included discussions on diversity in the climate sector, thoughts on climate change in the finance industry and a fair and just transition.

Food: Women on the Frontline is the first event scheduled for 2022.
On 12 January a panel discussion featuring Nikki Yoxall, a farmer and educator, will allow people to hear more about the role of women in creating sustainable food systems, addressing the climate and biodiversity crisis through agriculture and building a sustainable farming movement.
People are encouraged to sign up to attend via eventbrite.

The second exciting event will take place on 24 January and will feature an online screening of Scotland: Our Climate Journey – a recent documentary charting Scotland’s inspiring progress in the fight against climate change – followed by a Q&A with the director Ted Simpson and producer Finbar O’Sullivan as well as people featured in the film.
The documentary is narrated by individuals from across the country, from leaders of industry, to activists and community organisers.
People are can sign up to attend via eventbrite.
The national event series complements a wide range of local community festival events taking place right across Scotland. The programme aims to kick start climate conversations and inspire community led climate action. To support local event organisers, an online Festival Forum event will take place on January 26. This will feature a conversation with Elaine Grant of Falkirk Delivers showcasing learnings from a recent two-day climate festival in the town.

Catherine Gee, Deputy CEO of Keep Scotland Beautiful said, “As we enter 2022 there is more urgency than ever for us to broaden and intensify climate action so that everyone, from all areas of life, can play their part combatting the climate emergency.
“Scotland’s Climate Festival aims to bring the issues discussed before, during and after COP26 right to the heart of our communities, providing much needed energy and mobilisation to support local action as Scotland strives towards Net Zero in 2045.
“We’re delighted to add these new events to the programme in January and look forward to announcing further inspirational and informative events on different climate issues, including the wellbeing economy as we progress through 2022”.
The recording of the first national event, held on 7 December 2021, as part of Scotland’s Climate Festival can be found on YouTube. The event, which was attended by over 100 people, included a dynamic panel discussion with four brilliant speakers, including the Minister for Just Transition, Richard Lochhead MSP.
As part of Scotland’s Climate Festival communities across the nation have been urged to register local events, big and small, physical and online, to complement the national programme. All events will feature on an online map so people can easily find out what is going on and how to attend and all activities will help amplify the call for greater action to support Scotland to become a Net Zero Nation.
Scotland’s Climate Festival is supported by the Scottish Government.

An outstanding youth orchestra from the Netherlands – the KJO – will perform a varied and entertaining programme of popular, classical and film music in Edinburgh next Tuesday (30 April). The orchestra will be joined by young talented soloists from China, Azerbaijan and The Netherlands at the free concert.
The Kennemer Youth Orchestra (Kennemer Jeugd Orkest / KJO), directed by Matthijs Broers, ranks high amongst youth symphony orchestras in The Netherlands. Rooted in the Classic/Romantic repertoire, the orchestra is also known for its more adventurous programming including film music as well as participating in crossover projects incorporating ballet, the visual arts and pop music. Currently seventy young people from the Haarlem area, between the ages of fourteen and twenty-two, join together to perform in an orchestra of exceptional musical quality and youthful exuberance.
Each Spring the orchestra goes on concert tour to a foreign destination – the highlight of the season for the young musicians; performing in front of these audiences but also coming into contact with the local musicians is both memorable and educational. Social interaction through the universal medium of music is essential in the development of young people. These concerts are well attended and appreciated by audiences and critics. The tour destination for 2012 was the Loire and Bordeaux regions of France. This year, from 27 April to 1 May 2013, the orchestra will perform in Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh. The programme includes:
• Nabucco, Overture | Giuseppe Verdi
• Piano Concerto No. 25 in C major, KV 503 | Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
• Finders Keepers Suite | John Treherne
• Ballade Opus 4 for Cello and Orchestra | Reinhold Glière
• Pezzo Capriccioso for Cello and Orchestra | Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky
• Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End | Hans Zimmer
The Edinburgh performance – at the Reid Concert Hall – is a FREE CONCERT.
