See It On Screen launches with free Double Bill Premiere

Outdoor screening of two short films at The Neighbourgood Market in Stockbridge

Scotland’s newest independent film production company, See It On Screen, launches today with the announcement of a summer premiere of its first two short films, Ice Melts and Out Of Town.

The films will be premiered at an outdoor screening at The Neighbourgood Market at Edinburgh Accies Rugby Club on Thursday 22nd July at 7pm.

Both films, Ice Melts (10 minutes) and Out Of Town (20 minutes), are original short stories written and directed by Archie Middleton, an Edinburgh-based graduate of MetFilm School in London, and have harnessed local and emerging talent and crews to create the finished films.

Archie said: “These films are my first published works as a professional and I am immensely proud of each and every member of the cast and crew who were involved in creating them.  It demonstrates clearly that there is real talent and ability all around us which just needs a chance to prosper.”

And See It On Screen is determined to continue unearthing new talent, give it the exposure it deserves and, with it, access to the film industry.

Hester Middleton, founder of See It On Screen and producer of both films, explained “We are committed to the idea that talent can be found anywhere and recognised on sight.  Archie has brought around him a team of dedicated individuals, all of whom are passionate about storytelling in film, some with film qualifications and some without.

“Our aim is to build a community of film-interested friends and supporters, and to create opportunities to work in film for those who would not otherwise have access. We won’t charge anyone to see our films, but we do hope that they will inspire our audience and other benefactors to support our future projects through donations.”

Ambika Okhandiar, Event Director of The Neighbourgood Market, added: “We are delighted to be hosting See It On Screen’s premiere event! It’s great to be playing our part in launching this ambitious and worthy venture within local cinema.

“We have had a successful festival this year, including screenings of Euro 2020 and Wimbledon.  We’re excited to host this premiere and we look forward to meeting the cast and crew and welcoming all film fans. “Milestone” as building work starts on Raeburn Place

The charity Raeburn Place Foundation (RPF) announced today that the main building works have started on site for the redevelopment of the historic sports ground at Raeburn Place, Stockbridge.

In redeveloping the famous sports ground, where the first rugby international was held, RPF will create first-class sports and recreational facilities, including a Museum of International Rugby,  that are fit for the 21st century, open and accessible to all and financially sustainable.

David Newlands, Chairman of the Raeburn Place Foundation, said: “This is a momentous day for the trustees and all involved in the project. The development will transform Raeburn Place into a sports hub and community resource, thereby improving lives through sport, which has been our vision from day one.

“Much hard work has gone into bringing our plans to fruition and to see the preliminary works completed and the building works beginning on site is a wonderful start to 2019 for everyone who has shown their belief in our vision.”

The contract has been let to Robertson Central, who carried out the enabling works on the site in 2017.

The contractor’s Regional Managing Director, David Cairns, said: “This is a landmark project for Robertson to be involved with, due to its central location and the importance of the ground in sporting heritage terms. We have been involved in the detailed design stage and are now pleased to be on site and bringing our experience to bear on realising the building.”

The redeveloped site will be financially sustainable due to the inclusion of commercial units and function space within the building. This commercial element, with units let to quality tenants including Marks & Spencer Foodhall, Waterstones and Charlie Miller, has attracted funding from the Bank of Scotland.

Work on this part of the contract is scheduled for completion in the autumn this year.

Raeburn Place Foundation: Paving the way for change

We would like to share with you the improvements RPF is making to the local area. The enabling works have been underway for eight weeks. During that time, and as part of RPF’s investment in this project and the area, significant progress has been made to improve the local environment for residents and visitors alike.
Tree Protection
Careful breaking out of the existing pavement is taking place in order to safeguard and enhance the health of the trees, and at the same time install a new footway which caters for the future growth of these trees.
Minimal Disruption for Local Residents & Businesses
These works are phased across both Portgower Place and Comely Bank Road, in order to cause the least disruption possible to local residents and businesses.
Portgower Place:  
  • The wall is being repaired where necessary
  • Creation of new openings in the wall for the car park in the new development
  • Pavements are being resurfaced
Comely Bank Road: 
  • Site levels on the playing field side have now been brought up to match the levels on Comely Bank Road
  • A temporary footway has been created on Comely Bank Road.

Raeburn Place Foundation has announced the signing of a lease agreement with M&S Foodhall for the Edinburgh Accies development at Raeburn Place. As the anchor tenant, Marks and Spencer will take 500m² towards the centre of the Comely Bank Road frontage.

Save Stockbridge to discuss next steps

Campaigners call meeting to discuss Accies planning applications

Residents and businesses in Comely Bank and Stockbridge are invited to a meeting about the Edinburgh Accies licence applications, the Licensing Board meeting and what further steps might be taken.

The Licensing Board has deferred a decision on the Accies licence application for a restaurant, function suites, clubhouse, licenced café, museum, cinema, theatre, gym, stand, etc. They have decided to visit the site before resuming their consideration. They have yet to start considering the three other applications: a licenced restaurant/ice cream parlour, a second licenced restaurant and a licenced supermarket.

There were over 300 objections to each application. That’s a huge number given that the applications were made over the Easter holidays and most people didn’t hear about them until just a few days before the closing date. There were only 75 letters of support.

* This meeting is for those who run businesses or live or in Comely Bank and Stockbridge. It is not a public meeting so it is not open to anyone else. Please respect the needs of those who live or work here and don’t try to attend if you are not local.

Save Stockbridge to hold emergency meeting

DSCF3542Campaign group Save Stockbridge has organised an emergency meeting to discuss the collapse of the wall adjacent to Edinburgh Accies rugby ground on Comely Bank Road.

A Save Stockbridge spokesperson said: “This is a very controversial issue and local people are infuriated at what has happened to the wall and how it has been allowed to collapse.”

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 17 December at 8pm at the LifeCare Centre on Cheyne Street. All welcome.

Accies redevelopment gets go-ahead

acciesThe redevelopment of Edinburgh Academicals’ Raeburn Place home has been given the green light following Wednesday’s decision to approve the club’s plans.

In a statement, the club said: ‘We are delighted to announce that planning permission for the development was formally granted on Wednesday 2 July 2014.

Although the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) confirmed that it was minded to grant planning permission for the development plans on 31 July 2013, this decision required that a legal agreement (known as a Section 75) was entered into with CEC. The S75 has now been signed and the Council issued planning permission on 2 July 2014.’

The next steps for Edinburgh Academicals are:

  • Finalise the leasing arrangements.
  • Consider preferred internal layouts for the new facilities, refining the design and layout of the internal spaces.
  • Prepare drawings and apply for the necessary building warrants.
