Police seek information about Nissan Note and Silverknowes break-in

Enquiries are continuing following a housebreaking in Silverknowes on Monday evening (7 February, 2022).

Around 8pm, police received a report of a house in Silverknowes Gardens being broken into. Officers attended and the rear door to the property had been smashed. No-one was within the house at the time and an assessment of what has been taken is under way.

Enquiries carried out so far have revealed that following the break-in the suspect(s) got into a beige or gold coloured Nissan Note car. The registration of the car is GF60 XZH but it is possible the registration plate has been changed.

The Nissan Note was stolen from the Davidson Mains area last month and officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen it to contact them.

Door-to-door enquiries are being carried out and officers are gathering and reviewing relevant CCTV footage for any further information on the suspect(s) and the Nissan Note.

Detective Sergeant Steven Dick said: “It appears the Nissan Note is being used by the suspect(s) to leave the scene and transport any stolen items.

“We should all feel protected in our homes, and know that our personal items and objects are safe from thieves. I am asking for the public’s help in trying to locate this vehicle. If anyone has seen it or noticed it parked up somewhere then please do get in touch with us.

“Your information could help us trace whoever is responsible and allow us to return any stolen items to their rightful owners.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3026 of 7 February, 2022. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can give information anonymously.

Turtle Dove Play Cafe in D’ Mains has closed down

A statement from Turtle Dove Play Cafe:

At the close of business today, Sunday 23rd January, we pulled down the shutter and unfortunately I have decided that it must remain that way and that TurtleDove Play Café will cease trading with immediate effect.

It is a very sad day, but due to low levels of sales since early December, the business is no longer viable to run in the long term and I must take the hard decision to do what is right for the business.

I would like to thank our many loyal customers from over the years, all staff who have worked for us and suppliers who have helped us produce what was once a vibrant, thriving café.

Once again, many thanks for all you support.

Police appeal following deliberate fires in Silverknowes & D Mains

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for information following a series of fires in Silverknowes and Davidson’s Mains early this morning

A number of incidents were reported to Police Scotland in the area between 4.55am and 5.55am.

These included four vehicles on Silverknowes Eastway, Silverknowes Avenue and Cramond Road South as well as within a property of Main Street, Davidson’s Mains and a post box on Silverknowes Road.

Nobody was injured in any of the incidents. Each of the fires is being treated as deliberate and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Detective Sergeant Dougal Begg of Edinburgh CID said: “Our enquiries into this series of incidents are ongoing and we are working to establish the full circumstances.

“We would urge anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity to come forward as soon as possible.

“In particular we would be keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage or private CCTV in the area.

“If you have any information which help our investigation please call 101, quoting incident 0341 of 27 January, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Substantial housing development planned for Davidson’s Mains

A planning application has been submitted to construct 36 new homes in Davidson’s Mains.

The plans would build on much of the car park to the rear of Tesco as well as land previously used by Clelands garage off Main Street before it closed.

The application proposes four (2-3 storey) buildings with a mix of two and three bedroom apartments.

Access to the new housing would be a single point from Main Street. There would be a small green space as part of the development which could be used as a play park.

There would be 30 parking spaces and covered spaces for 70 bicycles.

A rerouted cycling/pedestrian path would be preserved from Tesco to the old railway line that runs between Silverknowes Terrace and The Green.

Local Almond Lib Dem councillors Kevin Lang and Louise Young are alerting residents to the proposals:

“Important – because of COVID, the Council planning department has had to suspend official neighbour notifications for planning applications. Whilst the online site suggests a deadline of 13 April, this is not correct. No deadline currently exists for comments to be submitted – we’ll update our site when one is set.

EXPECT LONG DELAYS: D’Mains roadworks to last into March

More local traffic disruption is inevitable next week when Cityfibre undertakes cable connection work in Davidsons Mains, Silverknowes and Cramond.

Commuters have been warned to expect long delays when work starts on 3rd February – and the work is not scheduled to complete until 1st March.

Among the anticipated delights are a temporary one-way traffic system on Quality Street at some times during the works.
