LA Philharmonic to kick off the Festival in style at Tynecastle

The LA Phil brings a uniquely authentic gleam and glamour to the grandeur of Hollywood film scores in this year’s Opening Event, featuring classic movie music from the Golden Age of Hollywood by Korngold, Herrmann, Waxman and a selection from the best-loved film composer on the planet: John Williams.

In tonight’s epic family friendly concert, Gustavo Dudamel and his orchestra take over Tynecastle Park stadium for music from Star WarsHarry Potter and the Philosopher’s StoneE.T. and many more.

TODAY: Granton Goes Greener School Swap Shop

On the 2nd August Swap Shop will be open between 10am – 6pm and we will be concentrating on getting all the children ready for school.

Bring any school shoes, bags and uniforms, which you do not need, but someone else could still use.

Tea/ coffee, biscuits and soup provided. It is a FREE event, no booking required.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO SWAP ANYTHING, just come and collect any free school uniforms you need. We are very grateful to all our volunteers for their hard work – and Balerno High School and Granton Primary for their generous donations!

The Big Climate Conversation: sign up for Edinburgh event 2608

A nationwide conversation to discuss action to tackle the global climate emergency will take place in Scotland this summer, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.

Garden plants of the month: August

August is not a month when you want to spend a lot of time gardening. A lot of people are on holiday, it’s often very hot and those who are at home will not be in the mood for intensive work in the garden.
That is why this month the focus is on plants that can look after themselves when the temperatures rise: Agave, Eucalyptus, Aeonium and jade plant (Crassula).

Chancellor allocates extra £2.1 billion to ‘turbo-charge No-Deal Brexit preparations’

  • Chancellor doubles Brexit funding for this year, announcing £2.1 billion to prepare for no deal.
