An Edinburgh College Photography graduate is showcasing her award-winning historically themed portrait work in a new exhibition. Remains of the Past, an exhibition by Leesa Tulloch, features contemporary portraits shot in the style of historical paintings. The free exhibition opened at the Creative Exchange in Edinburgh last night and runs until Thursday 8 February.
Calcutta-born Leesa is an Edinburgh-based photographer who grew up in Ayrshire and studied Anthropology at Goldsmith’s University in London before relocating to Cape Town, where she discovered her love for photography through documenting her four daughters growing up. On returning to Scotland, Leesa undertook the BA Professional Photography course at Edinburgh College. She was awarded the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) College Award 2017 for the work included in this exhibition.
Leesa said: “The inspiration for this work comes from childhood memories of paintings by English and Flemish Masters. My aim was to reunite history with memories of the sitter to create unique and beautiful portraits. Studying at Edinburgh College allowed me to experiment and develop my own photography style, which runs throughout the Remains of the Past exhibition.
“Having my work recognised by the BIPP was a great accolade and I’m excited to have an opportunity to share it with the public.”
Remains of the Past is open from 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, from 15 January to 8 February at Creative Exchange (29 Constitution Street, EH6 7BS).
