Local MSP Ben Macpherson has praised the work of Hibernian FC and it’s GameChanger initiative that hosted a festive lunch for the less fortunate on Christmas Day. The MSP also encouraged people across the country to reach out to those who may be spending the festive period alone.
The SNP MSP praised the work across the country by organisations this Christmas, such as religious institutions, Social Bite, homeless shelters, local food banks and many other organisations who have opened their doors to people who did not have anywhere to go this Christmas.
The Edinburgh Northern and Leith MSP spent most of his Christmas Day at Hibernian FC’s Easter Road stadium with people from across Edinburgh as part of the Hibernian GameChanger initiative, which reached out to members of the community who may not have enjoyed or taken part in the festive celebrations with other people.
The local MSP said: “Christmas is a time when we can all help reach out to those around us who are alone or less fortunate.
“The Hibernian GameChanger initiative made a big difference this Christmas Day, hosting a community lunch at Easter Road for those who might otherwise have been alone. Many different people from across the local area got together and had such a great time with one another – it’s what this time of year is all about. The initiative and those involved deserve praise and congratulations for organising such a brilliant and inspiring event.
“We can all play a part during this festive period to help make sure that everyone has someone to share and enjoy it with. Let’s all try to spread some Christmas cheer this week and take some time to reach out to those who need support and companionship.”
