Last year artist Hans Clausen put out a call to find local collectors as part of his Arcadeum project. Well, while there has been some response Hans is still on the lookout for more – and two in particular have sparked his interest.
Hans said: “I’ve heard by word of mouth about two local collectors but haven’t been able to track down names and contact details, and I thought NEN readers might know of them? A woman in Pilton who has a big Elvis collection and a man in Wardieburn area who has a collection of model boats … ring any bells? I’ll be really grateful if you’re able to help with these folks or indeed if you are aware of any other collectors/collections in the area that I could approach.”
The mystery boat builder may be George Scammell, who was often featured in the print edition of the NEN. Granton character George built hundreds of boats, the pride of which was his model of the Brittania which was exhibited at Ocean Terminal. Sadly George died some years back.
