Westfield St James Quarter officially welcomes Christmas with spectacular festive celebrations

Forth 1 presenters joined Santa Claus to switch on the Christmas lights in the heart of Edinburgh

Christmas has officially arrived at Westfield St James Quarter, as Edinburgh’s city centre destination marked the start of the festive season with a spectacular Christmas light switch-on on Saturday 7 November.

Forth 1 favourites Boogie and Arlene were joined by Santa Claus at Register Square to illuminate the destination, bringing a touch of Christmas magic to the heart of the capital.

The celebrations saw visitors enjoy a festive parade through the Quarter, alongside entertainment featuring appearances from Santa and Mary Claus, cast members from the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh’s production of A Christmas Carol, World Champion Beatboxer Hobbit and performances from Revel Puck Circus and vocalist Unoma.

The event marked the beginning of Westfield St James Quarter’s festive programme, with a host of seasonal experiences and entertainment planned throughout November and December.

The destination is also continuing its support for Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas, helping make the festive season brighter for children and families across the local community and beyond.

Following the Christmas light switch-on, Boogie and Arlene also visited participating retailers to collect generously donated gifts from Westfield St James Quarter’s retail partners in support of the campaign.

Visitors are encouraged to get involved and help ensure children who might otherwise go without have something special to open on Christmas morning.

Westfield St James Quarter is once again acting as a donation point, inviting visitors to bring a new, unwrapped gift to the Guest Services Lounge on Level 1, from Saturday 7 November.

Mission Christmas supports children aged 0–18, with donations ranging from cuddly toys, books, dolls, puzzles and board games to pyjamas, hats and scarves, stationery, beauty products and tech.
