Queensferry Road re-opened following serious road traffic accident

Queensferry Road has been re-opened following a serious road traffic accident last night. Police Scotland have yet to confirm how many vehicles were involved and the number of casualties.

The accident happened after 9.30pm last night. Police issued a social media appeal for motorists to avoid the area: “Please be aware that Queensferry Road is closed in both directions, westbound at Tesco Supermarket and eastbound at Drumbrae due to a serious road traffic accident. Please avoid this area. Diversions in place and we thank you for your patience.”

Road conditions were treacherous following a day of weather warnings of high winds and heavy rain. Visibility was poor: there have been suggestions on social media that the traffic lights in the vicinity of the accident were not working and that street lights around the small shopping centre were out, but this has yet to be confirmed.

The section of Queensferry Road – one of Edinburgh’s busiest roads – was re-opened at around 6.30 this morning.

Inquiries are ongoing and a Police Scotland statement is expected later this morning.
