An Edinburgh After School club has dug deep and donated £2,000 to Cash for Kids as the charity’s Mission Christmas campaign reaches its final few days.
The parent committee at Corstorphine After School Club made the donation ahead of the final push from the charity to ensure as many children as possible in Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife and Falkirk wake up with a present this Christmas.
The Club was set up more than 20 years ago and now supports more than 100 families in the area.
Jo Guilar, from Corstorphine After School Club, commented: “It’s not fair on any kid to go without, especially at Christmas, so the parents who use Corstorphine Primary After-School Club were keen to make a donation.
“We’re juggling parents too but really want to help local families who struggle and we hope this will go to make a difference.”
This year 24,805 children have applied for Mission Christmas, more than any other year. Volunteers have been working around the clock at Mission Christmas HQ in the Gyle Shopping Centre, processing gifts and buying presents from cash donations.
Victoria Hendry, Charity Manager at Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids, said: “Our elves have been busier than ever before, but we’re working tirelessly to make sure that no child wakes up without a Christmas present this year.
“Each year we seem demand rise, and this year has been no different. Thankfully, we get so much support from volunteers and generous members of the public, so we’re confident we’ll achieve our target again. Time is running out but we still have until the end of today (Friday) to receive donations. This year, we’re particularly short on age ranges 9-12 and 0-18 months, so any help we can receive at all would be massively appreciated.”
