Man sentenced for reckless behaviour during bonfire season

Eighteen year old Christopher Bennett has been sentenced to 220 hours unpaid work at Edinburgh Sheriff Court for his part in dangerous and reckless behaviour during last year’s Bonfire season.

Community Inspector Jonny Elliot of Drylaw Police Station said: “This kind of behaviour is simply not acceptable and we will not tolerate anyone putting lives at risk.

“Operation Crackle is our response to tackling the issues we face during the Bonfire season, during which we specifically target areas affected by this kind of anti-social and dangerous activity. This enables those in local communities to enjoy the event safely whilst ensuring the safety of emergency services and other partners working during the period.

“Today’s sentencing is a reminder to every one of the potential consequences of their actions, as well as putting themselves and others at risk. We’d like to thank the public for their assistance and patience and we’d like to reassure them that we will continue to dedicate resources to dealing with these issues in the community.”

Those wishing to report anti-social behaviour can contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
