Scottish Labour and Co-operative party candidate for Edinburgh North and Leith, Gordon Munro, launched his campaign at The Prentice Centre in Granton Mains Avenue yesterday.
The launch was attended by members, activists and supporters who then started out on the campaign trail, canvassing and speaking to local people about the issues that matter in this election (see below).
Speaking before the launch, Gordon, who is a Leith ward councillor, said: “I am standing for the place of my birth as I want another generation to have the same opportunities I had.
“Our family home in Leith was condemned and we moved to a brand new Council house with an indoor toilet. We need a new generation of Council housing and the National Investment Bank provides that opportunity for families to have a new home.
“I am the first in my family to have a University degree thanks to the Open University. Education needs to be free, accessible to all and lifelong from cradle to later years.
“I am standing to help implement Labour’s Green New Deal which will help tackle Climate Change so that future generations have the chance to make choices rather than tackle a legacy of neglect.”
The North & Leith seat is one of the most marginal in the country. The SNP’s Deirdre Brock held the seat at the 2015 general election with a majority of 1625 over Labour.
