Passports and visas

You’ll need a visa to enter the Russian Federation – make sure you apply for the correct type and duration of visa. For further information, see the Russian Embassy websiteRussian Consulate General in Edinburgh and the website of VFS Global who manage Russian visa applications on behalf of the Embassy.

Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months after the expiry date of your visa.

Your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) isn’t valid in Russia, so travel insurance is essential, even if you’re only going for one night. It could save you a lot of money if you get into difficulties.

You must carry ID with you at all times – you’ll need to carry your passport to the match for possible police checks. Take a photocopy of your passport and visa, and leave this in your hotel room.

If you lose your passport, you’ll need to get an Emergency Travel Document from the British Embassy in Moscow between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Getting to the stadium

Direct international flights to Moscow from the UK arrive at either Domodedovo (DME), Sheremetyevo (SVO) or Vnukovo (VKO) Airport. Indirect flight options departing from Glasgow and Edinburgh Airports are available.

There is wide range of taxis available in Moscow including popular taxi apps Gett, Uber and Yandex. Official looking taxis can be unlicensed. Don’t share a taxi with strangers or flag down what may appear to be an official taxi. Where possible ask your hotel to get a taxi for you, ask for a telephone number of a reputable taxi company, or use an established company. You should agree the fare before getting into the taxi.

The nearest metro station to the stadium is Sportivnaya (red line) and Luzhniki central circle south-west of the city centre. To travel on the underground or Metro system, a ticket or travel card must be purchased from a ticket machine/ office found in any station foyer. The ticket cost is 55 Roubles for a single journey (0.7 GBP)

The distance to the stadium from the city centre is 6 km. The capacity of the stadium is 81000 seats.

At the match

Scotland fans are seated in blocks A211-212 and should enter through gate 4.

The stadium is accessible for wheelchair users.

Access to the stadium can be slow – there will be ticket checks and body searches at the entrance to the turnstiles. There will be a fan zone at the stadium, entertainment and catering will be provided starting from 19:00 onward.

The list of banned items includes alcohol, glass, bottles, cans and Pyros.

No alcohol will be sold in the stadium.

Smoking will be allowed only in designated areas.

Musical instruments, including bagpipes are allowed.

Visiting fans wishing to bring large flags or banners (size above 2 m x 1.5 m) will need to send a request for clearance in advance of the match to fans@rfs.ru with the subject «Support items 10.09.19» attaching a photo of the banner/flag in .JPEG or JPG format and indicating the size and material of the banner/flag and the details of the contact person.

Visiting supporters may be asked to stay behind for around 15 minutes after the match to allow the home fans to disperse. The respective announcement will be made at the stadium 30 min before the end of the match.

Tips

As in any other city beware of pickpockets and bag snatchers at the airport, around the city centre, at tourist attractions and when using public transport – only carry what you need and leave spare cash and valuables in hotel safety deposits.

ATMs and cash exchange offices are available in the airport and in the city, rates may significantly vary. If you bring cash, it is recommended to take US dollars or euros, as pounds are a rare currency in Russia.

It is forbidden in Russia to drink in public places, so fans are advised not to carry alcohol to the ground.
