Amazon Edinburgh team walks the walk for Edinburgh Women’s Aid

The Amazon Customer Services Centre in Edinburgh took part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk to raise funds for Edinburgh Women’s Aid.

Thirteen members of the Amazon team walked a combined 198 miles in Edinburgh, raising over £2,220 for the charity. The Hunter Foundation added another 40% to the donation bringing the total amount raised by Amazon for Edinburgh Women’s Aid to £3,248.
Edinburgh Women’s Aid works towards a society free from domestic abuse, by raising awareness and giving practical and emotional support to women and children who have experienced and/or are at risk of domestic abuse.

The charity believes that domestic abuse is unacceptable, and that women and children have a fundamental right to live their lives without fear or violence.

The Amazon Customer Services team chose Edinburgh Women’s Aid as its charity of the year and this is the second donation in 2019. To celebrate Easter, the team delivered over 200 Easter Eggs to the women and children that receive their support.

The team from Amazon’s Customer Services Centre in Edinburgh made the donation as part of the “Amazon in the Community” programme whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Stephen Lumsden, Site Leader at Amazon’s Customer Services Centre in Edinburgh, said: “The team had a fantastic day supporting our charity of the year, Edinburgh Women’s Aid.

“The Kiltwalk is a great initiative that raises funds and awareness to important causes in our community and we were happy to lace up our walking shoes to show our support for the life-changing work of Edinburgh Women’s Aid. I was also very impressed by the team’s commitment to the Kiltwalk and want to say a congratulations to the team for walking almost 200 miles for Edinburgh Women’s Aid.”

Kate Tregaskis, Fundraising Officer, Edinburgh Women’s Aid, said: “Thanks so much to Amazon Edinburgh staff for their support this year, particularly in relation to the Kiltwalk!

“The idea for participating in the Kiltwalk actually came from one of the Amazon team. This year was the first year that we as an organisation and many of our staff and friends at Edinburgh Women’s Aid have participated in it. Support from Amazon staff enabled us to proceed with confidence and thanks – in no small part to the energy, enthusiasm and commitment of all the Amazon staff who participated.

“The funds raised as a result of the Kiltwalk this year will have a really significant impact on the lives of the women and particularly the children that we support. We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with Amazon and to building on this success.”

The Kiltwalk is a walking event with three distances to choose from, suitable for walkers of all ages and experiences. The Kiltwalk is also a powerful fundraising model, developed and under-written by Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation. Their support will enable 140% of the sponsorship money raised by Kiltwalkers to go directly to their charity or local cause. Every walker can select the charity or local cause that they wish to donate to. This is the first time that Edinburgh Women’s Aid have been represented by a company in the Kiltwalk.
