On 17 September 2019 applications close for the Churchill Fellowships – 150 once-in-a-lifetime grants for UK citizens from all areas of society to travel the world in search of solutions for the UK’s most pressing problems.
Grants cover many of today’s key challenges: Arts for the built environment, Education, Emergency response, Enterprise & social impact, Environment, Conservation & sustainable living, Healthcare, Palliative and end of life care, Physical activity for healthier lives, Rural living, Science, technology & engineering, and Suicide prevention.
Fellows are funded to spend 4 – 8 weeks anywhere in the world, visiting the leading experts and best projects in their chosen topic. When they return to the UK, they are helped to share their global insights and make a difference in their communities and professional sectors. They influence policy and practice from grassroots to national level.
Chief Executive Julia Weston said: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to expand your horizons by researching an issue that you care about, with the global leaders in that subject, anywhere in the world.”
Anyone can apply, regardless of age, qualifications, background or seniority, as long as they are a UK resident citizen aged 18 or over. Fellows come from all age groups – from young people to retirees – and all demographic groups.
The Churchill Fellowships were set up in memory of Sir Winston Churchill in 1965 and 5,650 have been awarded since then.
