Report shines light on Fringe exploitation

With Edinburgh’s annual Fringe jamboree kicking off on Friday, campaign group Fair Fringe has launched their latest Advertising Exploitation report – exposing just how rife exploitation is throughout the festival.

Some “terrible highlights” this year include:

  • Companies (including Bound & Gagged Comedy, Two Skies Ltd and Phil McIntyre Entertainments) paying below minimum wage and offering £8 p/h
  • Massive companies like Underbelly still only offering minimum wage and failing to pay the living wage

– C Venues still refusing to pay their staff wages, claiming they’re “volunteers”

– Companies demanding for photos on applications and Purple Martian/Mars Comedy even saying they will not consider applications unless there are photos attached.
