NFU Mutual staff stepping out for charity

Throughout the month of August, staff at NFU Mutual in Edinburgh are going for a walk! The team are delighted to announce they are committing to a step challenge in order to raise money for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland.

The team of 13, most of whom spend a lot of time during work hours sitting at a desk, are aiming to do a whopping 5 million steps by 31st August.

Sarah Henley, Financial Services & Marketing Co-ordinator, said: “We have decided to put our best foot forward for charity. If you split 5 million steps between all 13 of us, it’s 87 000 steps a week!

“We all have busy lives and families and work in an office, so we currently average about 40 000 steps a week. To more than double that is a huge challenge that we’re excited to take on.

“Our average day consists of helping customers over the telephone at the computer, processing insurance quotes and arranging appointments with our Financial Adviser or driving to meet customers at their premises, so there’s less opportunity to work up a sweat.

“To reach our steps we’ll be making small changes like walking or cycling instead of driving, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, heading into the high street for a stroll on breaks and doing group exercise at lunch. We’re also organising group walks after work and in the evenings.

“We have chosen the charity as a few of us have had relatives that have suffered from strokes and heart conditions and we wanted to try and make a difference to help with research. Seemingly small changes to lifestyle can make a huge positive impact on health.”

Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland have a ‘no life half lived’ strategy and aims to help people in the country recover and live well after a stroke through support, education and funding.
