Spectacular street science entertained children in North Edinburgh yesterday.
Each trike carries a box full to the brim with impressive, explosive, messy, and down-right weird science experiments. From the power of air helping superheroes to finding out how carbon capture could save the planet, each demo explained some of the most interesting science happening today.
As well as watching expert performers do some unforgettable demos, the audience got stuck in too and learned some awesome science tricks to try at home, including making a balloon kebab and magically disappearing water.
Children from Forthview, Craigroyston, St David’s and Perniehall Primary schools were entertained throughout the day.
The events for local children were organised as part of the wider Pennywell/Muirhouse regeneration project .
Cllr Kate Campbell, Housing and Economy Convener, said: “We’re in the third phase of the wider Pennywell regeneration project so it’s great to have a chance to have an event for the young people in the community.
“I’m sure everyone will have a fantastic day and also find out just how much fun science can be.”
Joan Davidson, Head of Education at Edinburgh Science, said: “We are thrilled to bring the Edinburgh Science busking bikes to Muirhouse Library for a day of entertaining science shows for local schools.
“It’s crucial to encourage our young people to get involved in science, technology, engineering and maths, and our busking bikes create a fun and interactive way of doing this!”
Edinburgh Science busking bikes in the community are supported by Edinburgh Airport, Cruden and the PLACE programme. The PLACE Programme is funded by the Scottish Government, the City of Edinburgh Council and the Edinburgh Festivals, and supported and administered by Creative Scotland.
