A free evening of talks, live music and hands-on science will showcase research at the University of Edinburgh, on the diverse topics of fertility preservation and urban fires.
The event, Science on a Summer’s Evening, will be held at the James Clerk Maxwell Building, Peter Guthrie Tate Road, King’s Buildings, Edinburgh, EH9 3FD on Wednesday 10 July 2019. Doors open 5pm and the event will run 5:30 -7:30pm.

Female fertility declines with age, yet more women are delaying having children until later in life. In “Avoiding bad eggs and making good eggs”, Professor Evelyn Telfer illustrates how her team is working on techniques to grow human eggs outside the body.
Informal settlements housing over 1 billion people across the globe are at heightened risk of large-scale destructive fires owing to the materials used and close proximity of the structures. In his talk, “Flammable cities”, Dr David Rush presents how an international collaboration is exploring the engineering and social aspects of this issue.
