A free exhibition showcasing some of the most thought-provoking photographs taken over the course of 2018 will go on display at the Scottish Parliament this summer, it has been announced.
The World Press Photo Exhibition will feature over 140 images illustrating the major stories of 2018 including migrants’ perilous journeys towards the United States, the aftermath of a suspected gas attack in Syria, and the referendum on allowing abortions in Ireland.
Other winning images tell powerful global news stories across categories such as the environment, sports and nature. The free exhibition will be displayed in the Scottish Parliament’s Main Hall from 31 July to 24 August.
Announcing the exhibition, Scottish Parliament Presiding Officer, Rt Hon Ken Macintosh MSP (above), said: “This thought-provoking exhibition captures some of the most significant global news stories of 2018. It simultaneously reminds us of both the wonder of the world, and how cruel it sometimes can be.
“The World Press Photo exhibition plays an important role in highlighting the significant contribution photo-journalism makes, capturing powerful stories in a single image. It is fitting that we welcome it into our Parliament, the only Scottish venue to host it.
“This free display is a must see for anyone with an interest in politics, current affairs or photography. So, join us at Holyrood this summer, our doors are always open.”
The exhibition will be open from 10am – 5pm, Monday – Saturday between Wednesday 31 July – Saturday 24 August.
