Prestonfield fundraiser raises charity cash

Scottish rugby star Scott Hastings joined the Lord Provost at Prestonfield House to collect a cheque for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

The funds were raised earlier this year by Lord Provost Frank Ross, who is the President of the OneCity Trust, during his Burns Night Supper at the venue. He announced today (Wednesday 12 June) that the event will return to Prestonfield on 24 January 2020, with an evening of dinner, entertainment and live auctions. The first tickets will go on sale soon.

This year’s event raised £3,000 for Doddie Weir’s MND research charity and over £25,000 for the OneCityTrust, which fights social exclusion and inequality in Edinburgh.

Lord Provost and President of the OneCity Trust Frank Ross said: “I’m delighted with the amount raised for My Name’5 Doddie and ever thankful to everyone who donated towards the Burns Supper and the continued support of James Thomson and Prestonfield House.

“Many great prizes were donated including signed rugby merchandise by Doddie Weir. I’m pleased to be able to give back to him and his charity in this way. The generosity of people in Edinburgh is incredible.  I hope businesses from across the city will join us in 2020 to help us break this year’s record and raise even more much needed funds to provide grants to projects in Edinburgh.”

Scott Hastings, Chairman of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, added: “I am very grateful to the Lord Provost Frank Ross and to everyone who has supported this event.”
