The event “Rolling Thunder Scotland – The Return Ride – End The Witch Hunt Now” follows on from a previous demonstration recently which attracted 1000’s of people.
The event was a tremendous success in all locations and the Scottish support groups including Justice for Northern Ireland, have continued raising awareness and supporting other static events in Scotland, with attendance by veterans who are being prosecuted including Dennis Hutchings.
As with the previous demonstrations participants will set off from all over Scotland and Northern England to meet at Morrisons Supermarket, New Swanston, Edinburgh EH10 7JA to form up, leaving at 1215hrs and making their way to St. Andrews House, arriving at approximately 1300hrs.
The organisers (Alan, Gordon & Andrew) are honoured that taking the parade at St Andrew’s House will be Lt Col (Rtd) John Charteris MBE MC. Lt Col Charteris, who was the first member of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces to be awarded the Military Cross for operations on British soil.
Joining the group will be Gavin Harry Wragg, founder of the original Rolling Thunder protest – which took place in London simultaneously with the Scottish one on 12th April 2019 – and members of his Support Team.
The demonstrators wish to keep awareness of their anger over the unfair treatment of Veterans to the forefront of all politicians minds, regardless of whether that politician is an MP, MSP, Assembly Member or Councillor.
They also wish their disgust at Members of the UK Government – who have failed to stop the prosecutions – to be highlighted, together with the fact that they believe Members of the Scottish Parliament are complicit by their lack of action and support which has had, and continues to have, an effect on the physical and emotional health and wellbeing of Veterans and their families.
The group feels that MSP’s in Holyrood and MP’s in Westminster are also complicit by their silence. By not speaking out in favour of the plight of Northern Ireland Veterans they are, in effect, condemning them.
Once again participants in the protest are being invited to bring a donation of suitable foodstuffs to the form up point at Morrisons Supermarket for the charity, Dare to Care, food van to distribute to Veterans in need and the organisers of Rolling Thunder Scotland, on behalf of their members, will also hand over a donation of £425 to the charity.
As with the first protest it would be wonderful if the public would come out along the route and show their support for our Veterans and their families.
