Pro-EU campaign group rallies against Farage’s No Deal ‘fraud’

Members and supporters of leading pro-EU campaign group the European
Movement in Scotland made their voices heard as Brexit Party leader, Nigel Farage, held a rally at Edinburgh’s Corn Exchange last night. The group told him that his ‘No Deal Brexit’ rhetoric is not welcome here, as well as standing up for EU citizens, in a peaceful but good-natured manner.

The Brexit Party has no manifesto, no members and there are serious questions already being raised concerning the source of its funding, including that of Mr Farage’s backer, who is now under criminal investigation.

The EMS says Nigel Farage is very good at whipping up hate – he used propaganda techniques and paid for billboards suggesting that we were about to be overwhelmed by Syrian refugees (entirely untrue), during the EU referendum campaign.

He stated many times that we could have the Norway option after leaving the EU, whereas he is now calling for no deal at all. No deal with the EU would have a devastating impact on the Scottish economy and our universities.

Mr Farage wants the UK to be economically subordinate to Trump’s USA, a privatised NHS and ultimately to destroy the European Union, which the EMS argues has kept the peace for more than 40 years.

By his own admission Mr Farage has made £ millions while being an MEP
– we pay his salary, yet he does very little work, say EMS.  He never attends
committee meetings, has never written a report and is ranked 412th in
terms of work output, out of a total of 749 MEPs.

The European Movement Scotland says of country is proud of the many EU nationals who have chosen to make their homes here and we stand in solidarity with them and against the extremist views of Nigel Farage and his Brexit Party.

Mark Lazarowicz, from European Movement in Scotland said: “There is no
place in Scotland for Mr Farage and his false promises, which will only serve to further hurt the very people he claims to be representing”.

Manifesto or not, The Brexit Party is currently ahead in all opinion polls. The vote takes place on Thursday 23rd May.
