Last orders for Pint of Science Festival

Edinburgh will next week join over 300 cities around the world in hosting the Pint of Science Festival, and tickets for many of the 15 events happening in the city are already sold out.

Edinburgh organiser Daniel MacDougal says: “This year’s festival comes alongside a new, urgent global interest in science by the public. Climate and ecological issues have moved from science sections to front pages, but talking about science in the pub doesn’t have to be serious. At Pint of Science you’ll hear positive stories about exciting new research.”

Edinburgh’s Pint of Science events will celebrate the ground-breaking science discoveries coming directly from the city’s universities, as scientists present them informally alongside fun interactive activities. No prior knowledge is necessary, just curiosity about the world around you.

The theme of this year’s festival is “What Next?”. The question will be explored by speakers while talking about robotics, synthetic biology, the arctic ice cap, and much more. Brand new speakers have just been added, who will tell stories about how music can help with dementia care.

Talks will be held at these pubs:

  • The Tron (9 Hunter Square),
  • The Cuckoo’s Nest (69 Home Street),
  • The Canons’ Gait (232 Canongate),
  • The Raging Bull (161 Lothian Road), and
  • Old Bell Inn (233-235 Causewayside).

NB: Most of the events at the Cuckoo’s Nest are already sold out, with the others expected to do so over the weekend.
