Weird and wonderful creatures take over Edinburgh College’s PASS Theatre

A number of weird and wonderful creatures were brought to life at Edinburgh College’s PASS Theatre last night as the College’s Make-up Artistry students showcased their cosmetic talents.

More than 30 students used their special effects and beauty make-up skills to bring the mythical creatures to life as part of Edinburgh College’s annual Ministry of Make-up showcase.

NC and HND students produced a variety of show-stopping looks which were modelled during a catwalk show at the College’s Granton Campus.

The Joker from Batman, an Ork from Lord of the Rings, The Grinch and Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean were just some of the characters on show.

As part of their course students are taught make-up artistry disciplines ranging from styling hair and wigs, to bodypainting and special effects. Classes are taught by lecturers Joanne Carmichael, Kay Robertson and Michelle Paterson who helped students pull their final looks together.

The night also featured entertainment from Twelve Twelve Theatre performing an extract from an upcoming pride play and former X Factor contestant Jade Richards also performed, treating the audience to a rendition of Valerie by Amy Winehouse and At Last by Etta James.

Joanne Carmichael said: “The looks produced by the students this year have been unbelievable – the standard continues to get better every year! The characters were so realistic and the students should be very proud of their hard work. We had a great night celebrating the talents of our Make-up Artistry students, and I can’t wait for next year already.”

HND2 Make-up Artistry student Lorraine Walker said: “Tonight wouldn’t have been tonight without my lovely model Cara, I can’t thank her enough for her help. This is my final year at Edinburgh College and I’m really looking forward to seeing what the world of work has to offer.”

The Ministry of Make-up is part of Edinburgh College’s annual Glow festival which showcases the talents of its Creative Industries students. Glow festival runs until the end of June, with a variety of performances and exhibitions across Edinburgh.
