RNIB Talking Books appeal gets most votes from Edinburgh Tesco shoppers

Tesco community champion April Waters (pictured above, right) presents RNIB Scotland volunteer Hazel Kelly (left) with a cheque for £4,000, after the sight loss charity came first in six Tesco store’s ‘Bags of Help’ initiative, including Hermiston Gait and Corstorphine. Shoppers voted with special tokens for their favourite cause.

The money will fund two new, professionally recorded audio-books, one for adults and one for children.

April has been invited to record the dedication on each book. “This is such a fantastic project, I’m delighted to be part of this well-deserved award of £4,000 from our Bags of Help scheme,” she said. “Those little blue tokens really do make a difference!”

Also pictured are RNIB Scotland director James Adams and fundraising manager Angela Preston. “We were delighted to welcome April to the RNIB Scotland office in Hillside Crescent, and to tell her about the other work we do on behalf of blind and partially sighted people,” said Angela.

“Volunteers like Hazel are the lifeblood of our work. As a local Corstorphine resident, she has really galvanised the community to support RNIB. Our Talking Books, especially, are really valued by our members. It means they can share in the joy of reading as much as their sighted peers.”
