The Scottish Parliament has launched a new immersive video experience allowing people to take a virtual tour of the iconic building from anywhere in the world.
The new 360 degree video tour – which can be enjoyed with or without virtual reality goggles – gives viewers a unique perspective on the heart of Scottish democracy.
Led by a Parliament guide the tour takes viewers inside the Debating Chamber, on a stroll through the garden lobby and invites them to take a seat in one of the Parliament’s Committee rooms. Viewers can also experience behind the scenes access to areas not available on public tours including a look around an MSPs office and a tour of the Donald Dewar Library.
The video ends with a stunning 360 degree view from the top of the Parliament building.
The Parliament’s Presiding Officer, the Rt Hon Ken Macintosh MSP, welcomed pupils from Royal Mile Primary School today as they became the first to try out the new video experience.
Speaking at the launch the Presiding Officer said: “Geography is no longer a barrier to taking a tour of Holyrood. Whether you live in Shetland or Sydney you can now take a virtual look around your Parliament.
“Thousands of people already visit the Parliament every year and enjoy our public tours but we know that for those in more remote areas and indeed beyond Scotland it’s simply not practical nor possible to visit in person. The launch of this new video experience is part of our efforts to overcome those barriers and ensure the Parliament is open and accessible to everyone.
“Holyrood has always aspired to be a modern legislature. So, embracing new technologies and digital platforms to engage with people right across the country is a natural way to mark our 20th anniversary year.”
