Hattie Harley, 22 from Edinburgh and is about to embark on the challenge of a lifetime, as she takes on The Edinburgh Half Marathon, in honour of her mum who is currently living with Stage 4 bowel cancer.
Raising awareness of bowel cancer is important to Hattie and her family due to Hattie’s mum, Sarah, being first diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer five years ago. Since then Sarah has undergone chemotherapy, radiotherapy and numerous surgeries, with one resulting in her now having to live permanently with a stoma bag.
Sadly in January 2017 the cancer had spread and Hattie’s mum was told she now had Stage 4 bowel cancer and five years on, Sarah is about to undergo chemotherapy for the third time and hopefully final time.
Hattie said: “My mum is quite possibly the most positive, uplifting, hilarious and courageous person I know, and these qualities within her haven’t changed since her cancer diagnosis.”

Every 30 minutes someone dies from bowel cancer, making it the UKs second biggest cancer killer. However it shouldn’t be because it is treatable and curable especially if diagnosed early. The money raised by Hattie will help Bowel Cancer UK fund vital services and lifesaving research.
