Briggs supports Marie Curie’s Great Big Daffodil campaign

Miles Briggs MSP visited Marie Curie’s Great Big Daffodil, supporting the charity’s biggest annual fundraising campaign, the Great Daffodil Appeal.

The striking 7 foot tall installation at Edinburgh’s Gyle Shopping Centre between 13-15 March enabled people to visit and share a special message or photo to loved ones on a petal.

During this year’s Great Daffodil Appeal which hopes to raise over £700,000 in Scotland, the charity is focusing on the stories behind the 8 million UK daffodil pins exchanged for a donation to Marie Curie. Every donation and daffodil worn helps Marie Curie provide vital care for people living with a terminal illness and support for their families.

Miles was pleased to speak with Dianne Lawson, a Nurse at the Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh, as well as read some of the messages shared. He said: “I really enjoyed fundraising with Nurse Diane Lawson and reading the special messages and photos to loved ones on the 7 foot daffodil at the Gyle.”

Susan Brown Marie Curie Policy and Public Affairs Manager for Scotland said: “Thank you to Miles for visiting the Great Big Daffodil and sharing his story. All of the stories shared here in Edinburgh will come together with others from around the UK and will be unveiled at a special event in London on 20 March.

“People can still take part by sharing stories and photos on social media using #EveryDaffodil.”

Daffodil pins are available until the end of March from Marie Curie shops as well as Superdrug, Spar and Hotter.
