East vs West gridiron clash goes ahead on Wednesday

EDINBURGH Napier Knights will clash with Glasgow University Tigers in the rescheduled East-West American Football Varsity game on Wednesday February 20 at Sighthill Park.

The inter-city match will see the teams compete for the MacKenzie’s Challenge Trophy.

Originally due to be played at Meggetland Stadium on Super Bowl day, the game fell victim to the big freeze at the start of the month, disappointing the city’s Gridiron fans. With time running down on the season, the game has been shifted to a Wednesday afternoon at the Knights’ usual home of Sighthill Park.

Edinburgh Napier Knights’ Head Coach Pete Laird said: “Whilst it was disappointing to have lost the original fixture to the weather, we hope people can still enjoy the game, which went right to the final whistle last year.

“Whilst the park lacks the facilities of Meggetland, we still hope spectators will come down and enjoy the game and make as much noise as they possibly can.”

The Knights come to the game fresh from an away day victory against the same opponents, posting a 20-2 victory in Glasgow.

“Glasgow are always a tough opponent, and are fighting for their survival in Division 1, so we take nothing for granted,” said Pete.

Napier still have championship aspirations and any victory would propel them to a possible title decider the following weekend.
