Boxing Clever To Burn Off those Christmas Calories

If you, like the average Scot, consumed between 6,000 and 7,000 calories yesterday between festive brunch, Christmas lunch and a turkey sandwich supper – not to mention the mince pies, the tipples and the chocolate oranges – you may not be feeling in the mood to move much today.

Scottish Slimmers, Scotland’s only independent leading weight loss and wellbeing organisation with classes in over 100 towns and cities, has compiled a list of Boxing Day activities to encourage you into action along with tracking how many Christmas calories you can burn off with each.

Rachael Smillie, nutritional advisor at Scottish Slimmers says, “We all have the chance to indulge on Christmas Day, and it’s just one day of the year, so take the chance to cut loose and enjoy yourself. But, if you do feel like getting back on track we’ve got some fun ways to get active today.”

Pringle Bells

A small tub of pringles has 207 calories. Playing football in the garden for half an hour with the kids will soon see to that as you’ll burn 204 calories.

Snowball fight

If you’re lucky enough to have a white Christmas where you are, get outside and indulge in an hour of out and out snow warfare. You’ll work off 319 calories per hour or three slices of roast turkey (101 calories per slice).

Boxing Day Sales versus Pigs in Blankets

Deceptively small and wickedly moreish, pigs in blankets meet their match in …. Boxing Day sales. Two hours of sale shopping (396 calories) will add up to four of the festive treats (388 calories).

Raise a glass to Santa Paws

Lace up your boots, zip up your jacket and clip on the lead – as well as making your four-legged friend very happy, an hour’s moderate dog walking (205 calories) adds up to two glasses of champagne at 90 calories each.

I Wish it Could Be Christmas Every Day

Get on your boogie shoes and dance yourself dizzy for half an hour (205 calories) to That’s What I Call Christmas and you’ll have rocked off a portion of oatmeal stuffing or skirlie (219 calories).

Trifling with the Christmas Spirits

Let’s hope for a white Christmas, as making snow angels for an hour (214 calories) will burn off that portion of sherry trifle …

Under the Mistletoe

A portion of cranberry sauce at 50 calories gives you every excuse to stand under the mistletoe and kiss anyone who passes. Eight minutes of Christmas smooching will do it!
