Recovery Kidz say thanks as they receive donations from Mission Christmas

Mission Christmas is now well underway with local charity, Recovery Kidz, amongst the first to benefit from the generosity of the people of Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife and Falkirk.

The Edinburgh-based charity has now received over 200 gifts through Cash for Kids seasonal charity drive from Forth 1 and Forth 2 to help underprivileged children from across Edinburgh, the Lothians Fife and Falkirk.

The gifts will help children and young people whose families are affected by drug and alcohol addiction. Each year, kind-hearted volunteers throw a Christmas party for the children supported to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

This year’s donations bring the total support from Cash for Kids for the Edinburgh-based organisation to 2,000 presents and grants totalling £10,000 over the past four years.

Nicki McCloud of Recovery Kidz said: “Recovery Kidz is incredibly grateful for all the presents we have received from Mission Christmas this year, and every year since we first began in 2013. Many of the children we work with have been affected by trauma and these presents really do make a huge difference, helping them to feel special.

“I want to say a huge thank you to all the members of the public who donated to this amazing appeal. I also want to say thank you to Cash for Kids for all their hard work and tireless efforts to ensure year in and year out children who have very little are able to be a part of Christmas.”

Recovery Kidz organises a programme of events throughout the year including trips to Edinburgh Zoo and Blair Drummond Safari Park with its annual Christmas party the highlight of the charity’s calendar.

Victoria Hendry, Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids Charity Manager, said: “Being able to support Recovery Kidz today was a special moment. We know that the gifts donated by our listeners help to make a huge difference to the youngsters that open them.  The presents received help us to keep the magic of Christmas alive for children that will otherwise go without.

“It’s fantastic having such a close relationship with Recovery Kidz from when it first began, right up to today. We’ve watched the charity grow and we are proud to have gone some way in helping it flourish.”

In 2017 nearly 21,000 underprivileged children from across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife and Falkirk received Christmas presents thanks to Cash for Kids Mission Christmas. An incredible £1.1 million was raised last year, ensuring more children than ever before awoke to brand new presents on Christmas morning.

Mission Christmas – in partnership with B&M Bargain and B&M Home Stores – is appealing for support to help even more children in 2018. New and unwrapped gifts can now be donated at a number of locations including local B&M stores and ASDA as well as at the Gyle Shopping centre.

Further information on how to support Mission Christmas is available at forth1.com/mission and the deadline for gift donations is 18th December.

Any gifts donated after the deadline, or surplus gifts from more popular age groups, will be distributed in the New Year to families in refuges and other emergency situations or stored securely to be used the following year.
