Briggs welcomes St. Columba’s Hospice’s Light up a Memory campaign

Tory MSP Miles Briggs has tabled a motion welcoming the launch of Light Up a Memory, a campaign run by Edinburgh based St. Columba’s Hospice.

The interactive memory-powered map allows users to search for a location anywhere in the world that reminds them of a loved one who has died, and leave a marker dedicated to that person.

It’s easy to use, simply search for a location on the map, add your dedication and memory then share it with your family and friends and encourage them to add their own special memory.

People can add as many memories as they like and go back to www.lightupamemory.com whenever they want to visit their special place.

Any money raised from the campaign will help the Hospice care for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Miles Briggs, Scottish Conservative Lothian MSP, said: ““This is an fantastic initiative that allows people around the world to leave a marker with a message on a place that reminds them of a loved one.

“The Light up a memory map is an excellent way for people to remember a time and a place with a loved one that they think back on fondly.

“If you have a loved one who you would like to place a marker on a place that you have fond memories with that person, I encourage you to visit the site and share your memories with friends.”

Jon Heggie, Director of Fundraising for St Columba’s Hospice, said: “Many of the people we support have extended family living out with Edinburgh, often in other countries.

“We wanted to create a campaign to reflect this, giving families a way to connect and reflect on fond memories even if they can’t be together.

“It’s easy to take part and you can dedicate a marker to a loved one whether they were cared for by the Hospice or not.

“We hope that in addition to reminding people about the vital work hospices do, the map will shine brightly with glowing markers throughout the year – each one a memory or story close to the heart of people across our community and beyond.”
