Funds to train new crew members for Dunbar RNLI have received a cash boost thanks to a regional housebuilder.
The Dunbar RNLI Fundraising Committee was chosen to receive £500 from Persimmon Homes East Scotland, based in Bathgate, through its Community Champions scheme to help support its ongoing fundraising efforts.
Life boats have launched from Dunbar Harbour for over 210 years manned by crews that have been recognised numerous times for their bravery. The Dunbar RNLI Fundraising Committee don’t receive Government funding leaving them reliant on voluntary donations to keep the service up and running.
Veronica Davies, fundraiser for RNLI Dunbar, said: “We are delighted to be chosen to receive this funding from Persimmon. The cost associated with training each new crew member is £1,300 and while they give their time on a voluntary basis they all have to undergo rigorous training.
“We work hard to raise funds ourselves through events including our Strictly for the Lifeboats and Dunbar’s got Talent events but we still rely heavily on donations from businesses and individuals in the community and can’t thank Persimmon enough for its support.”
Jim Kirkpatrick, managing director for Persimmon Homes North Scotland, said: “We are always keen to support the local communities in which we build, and are especially delighted to be able to help support the RNLI in Dunbar.
“The bravery and dedication shown by the volunteer crew is something to be very proud of and we wish them every success in training new crew members.”
Persimmon Homes East Scotland is currently building a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes at Haddington Manse, Arthurs Way in Haddington with prices from £165,000.
Jim added: “Following the success of our Earls Gate development we hope to have consent for a new phase of homes in Dunbar at the September planning committee.”
