Celebrating diversity at Craigroyston Primary School

A group of parents from Craigroyston Primary planned and organised a special event to celebrate diversity at the school on Thursday.

No less than 47 different languages are spoken at the Muirhouse school, and Thursday’s event was an opportunity to share and celebrate the many different cultures that contribute to life at Craigroyston.

With foods from around the world, music, dance and storytelling there was something for everyone. A piper opened the event, the school’s Fischy choir welcomed guests with a couple of songs and the One Tribe African dance troupe entertained the audience with a high energy routine.

Adding a flavour of the Caribbean were Professor Geoff Palmer, who talked about Jamaica’s strong links with Scotland and musician Claudius England, who encouraged the children to participate in some reggae beats.

There was Shetal Indian dance and the school’s P6 pupils performed New Zealand’s world-famous Hakka – not once, but twice!

The Fischy choir song ‘Welcome Everybody, It’s Good To See You Here’ pretty much summed up the event. It really was a special afternoon – well done to the organisers.
