Dogs Trust’s Rehoming Centre in West Calder is currently seeking new owners for two special canine residents who need a little extra care from their new families. Alfie, a nine-year-old Crossbreed, who was diagnosed with diabetes and Freddie, the six-year-old Border Collie who lives with canine epilepsy.
Both Alfie and Freddie still enjoy living full lives and their conditions haven’t slowed them down in the slightest. These adorable boys both have certain special living requirements, and so are looking for extra special homes with understanding owners. Canine carers are hoping potential owners will be willing to give these loveable pooches another chance as part of loving families.
Due to Alfie’s diabetes, he must follow a relatively strict meal routine which coincides with his twice daily insulin injections. Alfie mustn’t snack between meals, so would benefit from living in an adult-only household, as young children may try to share their food with him. Alfie’s new family would also need to be able to bring him to the vets for regular check-ups and he would ideally not be left on his own for long periods of the day.
Similarly, Freddie (above) would also benefit from a peaceful, adult-only home with no other pets, where he would have company for most of the day. Although dogs with epilepsy can be managed well in the long term, they can still have the occasional seizure when on treatment, and he will also require regular vet check-ups for his condition.

Alfie and Freddie are fantastic dogs, who will make great companions for the right families and we want to give them every opportunity to find their special someone.
“Freddie is a happy boy who loves going on relaxing walks in the country. He likes spending time in the garden and having fun with his soft cuddly toys. Alfie is such a sweet boy, who is always happy to see you and loves nothing more than being indoors and snuggling between his soft blankets.”
