Like A Sturgeon touches Edinburgh for the very first time

Edinburgh-born drag queen Ripley makes her Fringe Festival debut with her acclaimed show Like A Sturgeon, as part of the Underbelly.

  • ‘The funniest political show we’ve seen since Spitting Image’ – Boyz Magazine
  •  ‘Captivating stage presence’ – QX Magazine
  • ‘Razor-sharp observations and deep satire’ – SNP London

The 100% lipsynced production combines drag, pop and politics as Ripley takes on the guise of some of the world’s leading ladies including Melania Trump, Theresa May and Scotland’s own Nicola Sturgeon.

Each act is mixed and recorded by Ripley herself, containing her own vocal impressions, projected visuals and unique brand of ironic political humour.

“I’m so excited to return home to Edinburgh with the Like A Sturgeon show,” says Ripley. “The First Minister has been a huge source of inspiration to me as an artist, and I’m hoping that Nicola Sturgeon will find time in her busy schedule to pop up the road from Holyrood to come and watch. I’ll save you a wee seat, Nic!”

Currently based in London, 30-year old Ripley started her drag career in 2015 doing guest spots at The Church of High Kicks in Edinburgh’s CC Blooms. Since then Ripley has gone on to win London’s It’s A Knockout drag competition, been nominated for Best New Cabaret Act 2017 and Best Cabaret Act 2018 at the Boyz Magazine awards. Her quarterly Like A Sturgeon show has become a huge success at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern, garnering praise from London’s LGBT press.

Like A Sturgeon runs 20-26 August at Belly Dancer, 66 Cowgate, Under George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, EH1 1JX. Tickets £10 weeknights, £11 weekend, available via: http://www.underbellyedinburgh.co.uk/whats-on/like-a-sturgeon
