St John’s Children’s Ward: update ‘by end of summer’

Miles Briggs MSP has written to the new Cabinet Secretary for Health, Jeane Freeman, to seek assurances that she is committed to reinstating the 24/7 model for the Children’s Ward at St. John’s Hospital.

St. John’s Hospital children’s ward has now been closed for out-of-hour services for a little over a year.

Ms Freeman (below) has requested a progress update from the acting Chief Executive of NHS Lothian, Jim Crombie, by the “end of the summer”.

Miles Briggs, Scottish Conservative Health Spokesman and Lothian MSP, said: “I hope the new Cabinet Secretary for Health can succeed in reinstating the full time operating hours for the Children’s Ward at St. John’s Hospital, where the previous one has failed.

“I am apprehensive that Jeane Freeman will not be able to return the Children’s Ward to full time operating hours because of the SNP’s mismanagement of NHS Scotland’s workforce over the last 10 years.”
