Well Pharmacy supports the Scottish Environment with healthy donation

Well Pharmacy has donated £1,313.70 to the Edinburgh based charity, Scottish Wildlife Trust, who dedicate their time, money and efforts to protecting the Scottish environment.

There are over 65 Well Pharmacies in Scotland, and the money was raised through the sale of their 5p carrier bags between January and June this year.

The Scottish Wildlife Trust was chosen by Well Pharmacy employees, who voted to have their say as to where the donation went.

Zoe Furnivall, Fundraising Officer at the Scottish Wildlife Trust, said:  “As Scotland’s leading wildlife conservation charity we are reliant on public support to help us campaign for wildlife, manage our network of reserves across Scotland, and educate and inspire the next generation. We’re very grateful to Well Pharmacies staff in Scotland for nominating the Trust to receive this generous donation”.

The donation follows the introduction of the carrier bag levy, which came into effect in 2015, with the charge helping to tackle environmental factors, reduce waste and overuse. Well Pharmacy have noticed the levy’s positive impact over recent years, with a 42% decrease since 2016, in the use of plastic carrier bags within their Scottish pharmacies.

Sophie Baldock, Engagement Manager at Well Pharmacy, said: “I am really pleased to see that the donation has been so well received by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. The colleague vote allows our pharmacy teams to give back to their local communities by supporting their chosen charity, and gives customers peace of mind knowing their carrier bag purchase goes straight back to helping the environment.

“The Scottish Wildlife Trust does absolutely amazing work, ensuring that Scotland is cared for and protected, as well as raising awareness of environmental issues that affect all of us”.
