Edinburgh spark could be crowned Top Tradesperson

Peter Beattie, an electrician from Edinburgh, has seen off more than three thousand competitors to be named one of just ten finalists, hand-picked to attend the national final of Britain’s Top Tradesperson 2018.

Screwfix has travelled the length and breadth of the UK and Northern Ireland to find the most talented tradespeople to shortlist for the finals of this renowned competition, with the outright winner not only claiming the coveted title of “Britain’s Top Tradesperson 2018” but also the keys to a brand new Mitsubishi L200 Warrior pick-up truck worth £33,000 (OTR).

Peter will now attend the final at Twickenham Stadium in July (27th), and plans to go all out to impress a panel of expert judges in an all-day showdown with the other finalists.

Peter, who trades under the name PB Electrical Services says: “I’m delighted to be in the national final! To be recognised for the hard work that I put in means so much and I’m looking forward to meeting the judges and the other finalists too. I’m extremely enthusiastic about my work and always give 100% – I can’t wait to show the judges what I’m made of, and to make my family and customers proud!”

Peter started his business as a sole trader in 2007. Over the years he has trained 3 apprentices and currently employs 2 of them. He says he has a real passion for bringing new people into the trade and helps his team out with their work as much as he can.

Every day Peter and his team head out to a number of jobs to help homeowners and keep local companies in business. He loves the diversity which comes with the job – he cites working on the installation of hot yoga studios as one of the most unusual tasks he has completed.

The dream is to win this competition, secure a large contract and push his business to the next level.

Caroline Welsh, Director of Brand and Marketing at Screwfix says: “We first launched this competition nine years ago and it has remains THE title that the nation’s tradespeople want to win. In the regional heats Peter impressed us with his experience and the pride he takes in his work.

“The title of Britain’s Top Tradesperson is only given to those who demonstrate that they represent all that is great about the nation’s tradespeople. I’m looking forward to seeing Peter at the final!”

Rob Lindley, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK commented, “Reaching the final of any national competition is a huge achievement, but to make the grade in a competition as fiercely contested as this, against so many talented and dedicated tradespeople, is truly an accomplishment to be very, very proud of. We wish Peter every success in the final and you never know, we could be handing them the keys to one of our award-winning L200 pickup trucks very soon.”

This year’s judging panel will include representatives from Screwfix, trade bodies the FMB, CIPHE, NICEIC and BWF, together with Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, who have the task of deciding who drives away with the title of Britain’s Top Tradesperson 2018 in their brand new Mitsubishi L200 pick-up truck.
